How do I activate my account?

Your account will be initially activated at the time of your professional installation. When your service expires after 30 days without a refill, you will need to make a payment to re-activate your account. Payments can be made on this site or by visiting a Shentel retail store or calling 1-800-SHENTEL.

How do I pay?

When you sign up, you should receive an email with a MACID and barcode for making payments. To pay online:

  • Visit shentel.com/prepaid
  • Enter your personalized MACID. If you don't have the email handy, you can find the MACID on a sticker on the bottom of your modem, labeled HFC MAC ID
  • Make a payment using a credit or debit card. You can also purchase multiple months or sign up for autopay while you are there.

To pay over the phone:

  • Call 1-800-SHENTEL to pay by credit card or debit card.

You may purchase refills online or by bringing your Shentel Prepaid Key Card to a Shentel store in your area. To top off your account online, you must visit shentel.com/prepaid. You will be asked to enter your modem’s MAC ID. After that, you will be directed to your account status page, with payment options.

What is a MAC ID?

A MAC ID is a unique code that all network devices have so that they can be uniquely identified. We need the MAC ID from your modem to be able to provide service to your location. You can find the MAC ID printed on a sticker on the bottom of the modem under the barcode. We also email you a digital key card which contains your MAC ID for easier reference. 

How can I see how much time I have remaining?

Visit shentel.com/prepaid and enter your MACID to see when your current service is scheduled to end. You can set up automatic payments on the site to keep from accidentally letting your service disconnect. 

Can I skip months?

You are not required to maintain consecutive service. You may purchase Internet service to use whenever it is convenient for you. If you miss a month, you may purchase a refill the following month with no penalty or additional charge. If you transfer your prepaid service, you will have to select a current Shentel Prepaid Internet plan.

I have bad credit. Will I still be able to get Shentel Prepaid Internet?

Yes! There are no credit restrictions.

Are there any restrictions on who can use Shentel Prepaid Internet?

You must be at least 18 years of age and live within a serviceable area.

What if I have technical difficulties?

You may call 1-800-SHENTEL for technical support.

Can I upgrade to a faster speed?

For current speeds, contact a Shentel representative to see if you are eligible for a post-paid service plan.

Do I need a credit card?

No. You may top off your account at participating retail locations using cash or other acceptable payment methods.

When does the 30 days start on the first month?

After the install is complete.

I already have a modem. Can I use that?

No. You must use the modem provided in your starter kit.

Somehow I lost my modem. Do I need to buy a new starter kit?

No. You may purchase a new modem from Shentel. Visit your local Shentel store for full details.

Can I have wireless internet?

Your modem provides WiFi wireless access. Please refer to the installation guide for details on how to configure.

Are there any restrictions on who can use Shentel Prepaid Internet?

You must be at least 18 years of age and live within a serviceable area. Current Shentel post-paid customers must be without post-paid service for 30 days to be eligible for pre-paid services.
